JU men’s lacrosse to host Denver this Sunday
The Ashley Sports Complex will get its first taste of Division I lacrosse this Sunday when the JU men’s lacrosse team welcomes Denver to Jacksonville at noon.

The Dolphins (0-2) face the Pioneers after a heartbreaking loss to Bellarmine, 14-13, last weekend that saw the home side leading 10-4 at the half.

“The guys are continuing to work extremely hard for our first victory,” said JU head coach Matt Kerwick. “We’re very excited to have a team as strong as Denver to come to Jacksonville. Our expectations remain the same, however, we’re going to go out and compete from start to finish and play as hard as we can”

Freshman attackman Ryan Serville has made a huge splash on the national scene in the first two weeks of the season. Serville currently leads the nation in points (10) and goals (7) while ranking second in assists with three. The freshman recorded five goals and two assists against Bellarmine.

The Pioneers come to Jacksonville on the second leg of a tough opening road trip.

Denver will face Syracuse on Friday night before flying down to Jacksonville for Sunday afternoon’s game. Before all is said and done, the Pioneers will have travelled 3,920 miles on the trip.

The Pioneers are ranked No. 18 in the Preseason Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and are receiving votes in the Preseason USILA Division I Coaches Poll. DU is picked to finish second in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) in its first year in the league.

Sunday’s coaching match-up features two coaches in the top-25 in Division I career wins and a combined 369 victories. Denver head coach Bill Tierney is currently fifth on that list with 273 wins while Kerwick currently sits in 21st with 97. Tierney is entering his first year at the helm of the Pioneers.

The Dolphins will faceoff at noon at the Ashley Sports Complex. Fans should note the field change from D.B. Milne Field. The game will be available on A-Sun.TV.
