JU men’s lacrosse falls to No. 18 Bucknell, 17-8
The JU men’s lacrosse team dug itself an early hole and could never dig out in a 17-8 loss to No. 18 Bucknell tonight in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Dolphins gave up the game’s first seven goals, spanning through the first 18 minutes, and pulled within four goals but could never get any closer.
The Dolphins were led by freshman attackman TJ Kenary with four goals and one assist while sophomore midfielder Jeremy Tissenbaum scored twice for JU. Senior goalie Brad Hester played all 60 minutes and made 15 saves.
The Bison were led by strong performances from Charlie Streep (4,3) and Austin Winter (4,2) while goalie Kyle Feeney picked up the win, making seven saves.
“After starting slowly we battled hard but we ran into an excellent team today,” said JU head coach Matt Kerwick. “They deserved this win; they outhustled us and did a great job riding us. We put forth a good effort today but they were great today.”
After finding themselves in a 7-0 hole, the Dolphins scored their first goal of the game when freshman Ryan Serville assisted Tissenbaum at 8:49 in the second quarter. Scalzo scored two of his goals in the second quarter while Tissenbaum also added a second and Serville netted his only goal of the game.
JU brought the game to within four goals (9-5) with a goal early in the second half on an unassisted goal from TJ Kenary but Bucknell would score the game’s next five goals to pull away for good.
The Dolphins could only score twice in the remainder of the game as Scalzo and freshman Cameron Mann each scored on two man-up goals in the fourth quarter.
JU will hit the field again next Saturday when the Dolphins travel to Robert Morris.
