JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU softball team fell 3-1 against Coastal Carolina on Sunday in the final game of the JU/Best Western Invitational at the JU Softball Complex, despite out hitting the Lady Chanticleers eight to seven.

Sophomore third baseman Beth Glasscock had the lone RBI for the Dolphins as she singled in sophomore shortstop Shannon Monahan.

"Coastal Carolina came out and beat us today," said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. "They came out wanting to play and we couldn't match them. We were flat and we couldn't get ourselves up to compete."

Coastal Carolina (2-4) took the lead in the first after an RBI single by Ashley Pisone, and then scored two in the fifth when Pisone and Allison Cantrell each drove in a runner.

Senor pitcher Shannon Jensen (1-2) took the loss after relieving freshman starter Jackie Samuels. Ashley Frederick (2-4) picked up the win for Coastal Carolina.

Preseason all-conference outfielder, senior Jillian Mirante, did not face the same struggles as she did last season in the tournament, as this year she went 7 for 15 (.467 average) and two RBI and four runs. She was also a perfect five-for-five in her stolen base attempts.

"The tournament in general was great," Lehotak said. "We were lucky with good weather. I think all the teams for coming and it was the smoothest tournament we have had here in a couple of years."

The Dolphins will be in action again on Wednesday as they take on Georgia Southern in a double-header beginning a 4 p.m. at the JU Softball Complex.
