JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU softball team dropped its doubleheader on Tuesday to Purdue, 8-3, in the first game and 3-1 in the second at the JU Softball Complex.

Sophomore third baseman Beth Glasscock went 2-for-6 in the doubleheader and drove in three of the Dolphins' four runs.

"I felt like we gave away the first game," said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. "I give full credit to Kim and her staff because even though we played better, they just came out and beat us in the second game."

The Dolphins (12-18) took a 2-0 lead in game one after Glasscock's double scored senior outfielder Jillian Mirante and freshman shortstop Katie Kelly and the Dolphins added to their lead in the third inning when freshman outfielder Katarina Engler scored following a sacrifice fly by Kelly.

Sophomore Ashley Iveson, who had a no-hitter through 3.1 innings, lost the shutout and the no-hitter when Kelsey Haupert hit a solo home run for the Boiler Makers with one out in the fourth inning.

Purdue (17-6) added three more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, to go with one in the seventh to make the final score 8-3.

Iveson (1-2) took the loss for the Dolphins after giving up seven runs (four earned) in six innings, while striking out three.Senior pitcher Shannon Jensen gave up one run in one inning of relief.

Mirante went 2-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases in the loss.

In game two, Purdue took the 1-0 lead in the first, only for the Dolphins to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning, when with two outs, Glasscock drove in senior designated player Patricia Melo.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins that is the only run they would score, as Purdue added one in the second and fourth innings to take home the 3-1 victory.

Sophomore pitcher Brittany Abbott (1-1) took the loss for the Dolphins after giving up two runs in two innings while recording one strikeout. Jensen pitched the rest of the game in relief for the Dolphins and gave up one run in five innings.

The Dolphins will begin their 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference schedule on Friday as they host Mercer in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at the JU Softball Complex.
