Softball to face Florida A & M on Senior Night

April 14, 2008

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Dolphins will host Florida A & M in a doubleheader on Tuesday, on Senior Night at the JU Softball Complex, beginning at 4 p.m.

The Dolphins will play their last home games of the season and will look to rebound after dropping four conference games last week to North Florida and Campbell respectively.

Senior Night

On Tuesday, the Dolphins will celebrate senior night at the JU Softball Complex during the doubleheader against Florida A&M.

Infielder Sara Gordon, pitcher Shannon Jensen, designated player Pat Melo and right fielder Jillian Mirante will be honored before the game for their contributions to the JU Softball program.

With four games remaining in their 2008 A-Sun schedule, the Dolphins currently occupy the sixth and final seed for the A-Sun tournament.

The Dolphins currently have five conference victories, while Gardner-Webb and Belmont have three each, though the Dolphins have played four more conference games than Gardner-Webb and two more than Belmont.

After the Florida A & M series, the Dolphins will travel to Stetson and first-place Florida Gulf Coast.

With the game tied 3-3 in extra innings, sophomore third baseman Beth Glasscock hit a two-run walk-off home run to clinch the game for the Dolphins over Gardner-Webb on April 5. Glasscock's blast over the left field wall was her first of the season and could not have come at a more crucial time for the Dolphins. Sophomore second baseman Kelly McKeon, who singled earlier in the inning, scored on the play.

The last time the Dolphins had a walk-off home run was on March 11, 2006, when Glasscock hit a two-run shot against Fordham to seal a 4-2 victory.

It was the Dolphins second walk-off victory of the season, as freshman shortstop Katie Kelly singled in senior right fielder Jillian Mirante in the Dolphins 4-3 victory over Virginia on March 2nd.
