ATTENTION: Want to Row?
The Jacksonville University Department of Athletics encourages competitive male and female high school athletes to try out for the JU Rowing team.
Our team is composed of highly motivated, passionate, hard working men & women who are proud to be a part of the athletic community at JU. No prior rowing experience is necessary.
Rowing at JU provides athletes without any rowing experience a rare opportunity to become a member of a varsity, NCAA Division I team. Get in contact with the Dolphins' coaches by filling out our questionnaire online at http://www.judolphins.com/mrowing/.
We are seeking competitive athletes to be rowers and small leaders (under 125 pounds) to be coxswains. Coxswains are in charge of steering the boat, running practices and executing the race strategy. Generally coxswains have strong leadership qualities, function well under pressure and have the ability to motivate others.
Learning the rowing stroke is relatively easy -- the most successful candidates are motivated and willing to learn the technique and an eagerness to train hard in order to achieve a competitive level of fitness. We work to develop a strong fitness base in the fall and gradually increase and diversify the training in order to prepare for 2,000 meter races in the spring. A background in competitive swimming, cycling and running is an advantage.
Open tryouts will take place during the first two weeks of the fall term, if you have any interest in trying out please contact the novice head coach Ed Oxlade at (904) 256-7832 or email@example.com
During the tryout period, practices will be 4-6:30 p.m. (practices will run approximately 90 minutes during those times). Interested individuals are encouraged to continue working out in whatever way they most enjoy to be in the best possible position at tryouts... and stay healthy this summer!
In order to tryout you MUST have a physical completed within 6 months of tryouts and your doctor MUST complete our physical form (please see attached/posted forms).
For further questions please contact Ed Oxlade at (904) 256-7832 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
