Rowing opens fall season with 21st annual First Coast Head Race

The JU rowing teams will look to take things to the next level in 2009-10 as the Dolphins kick off the fall season on Saturday with the 21st annual First Coast Head Race on the St. Johns and Arlington Rivers.

The event, which is hosted by the Stanton Rowing Foundation, is based out of the Jacksonville Rowing Club where boats race through a 4.8K course that runs under three bridges and mostly residential areas.

Boasting one of the largest squads in program history, JU will have 12 boats competing including eight from the men (Championship 8 A, B, & C, Championship 4 A, B & C, Novice 8 A & B) and four from the women (Championship 4 A, B & C, Championship 8).

The Men’s Championship 4 “A” consisting of coxswain Dan Moore, Erich Negaard, Sebastian Kuhn, Tyler Humphrey and Dylan Kosten; the Champ 4 “B” with coxswain Anthony Magro, Rich Kelly, Kevin Friedlander, John Gerety and Parker Lawler and the Champ 4 “C” made up of coxswain Andrew Soloway, Isaac LaCount, Isaiah LaCount, Greg VanOekel and Art Pareene will kick things off at 10:20 a.m.

The Women’s Championship 4 “A” with coxswain Leigh Taylor, Jenna Barker, Jill Carmody, Emily Close and Danielle Fournier; the Champ 4 “B” consisting of coxswain Michalea Kachadoorian, Allison Sobiech, Brooke Reemsnyder, Morgan McTiernan and Abby Sierigk and the Champ 4 “C” made up of coxswain Carolyn Barquist, Kelly Burke, Karly Greer, Brittany Cahan and Jenna Mathis will take to the water at 11:22 a.m.

The Men’s Championship 8 “A” with coxswain Tom Richards, Dylan Kosten, Tyler Humphrey, Sebastian Kuhn, Erich Negaard, Isaiah LaCount, Issac LaCount, Kevin Friedlander and John Gerety; the Champ 8 “B” made up of coxswain Dan Moore, Rich Kelly, Nick Spitzer, Tucker Smoot, Parker Lawler, Luke Bauman, Chris Barse, Wayne Reichard and Chris Ottie and the Champ 8 “C” consisting of coxswain Emma Allen, Greg VanOekel, Art Pareene, Mike Vasaya, Adrian Perez-Siam, Dan Hutchinson, Pat Mahon, Danny Lang and Brandon Makrides will go at 2:19 p.m.

The Men’s Novice 8 “A” with coxswain Anthony Magro, Klayton Hahn, Andrew Lippert, Bernard Vingilis, Grant Mulkey, John Chambers, Hasan Oracius, Luka Vukadinovic and Joey Tosto and the Novice 8 “B” consisting of coxswain Andrew Soloway, Korkies Cabrera, Evan Schnitker, Anatoly Kozorezov, Michael Esposito, Devin Walsh, Tony Ramo, Thomas Carroll and Shawn Carmical will compete at 2:43 p.m.

The Women’s Championship 8 made up of coxswain Jamie Goldstein, Jenna Barker, Danielle Fournier, Emily Close, Jill Carmody, Kelly Burke, Marina Arishina, Mary Mosier and Karly Greer will end the day for JU at 3:14 p.m.
