With five catches for 109 yards against Valparaiso, Josh Philpart became JU’s all-time leader in receiving yards, surpassing the school record of 1,986 set by Geavon Tribble.

The outing against Valpo lifted his career total to 1,996 yards, moving him within four yards of becoming the first JU receiver to record 2,000 career receiving yards.

“I’m extremely happy for Josh to break this record,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “He is a tremendous young man who is extremely talented. He has great hands as well as the ability to find a way to get open no matter what the defense throws at him – which is one of the signs of a great receiver.”

A year ago, Philpart set the JU single-season record for receiving yards with 912 and caught a school-record 13 touchdowns.

This season, he’s on pace to break those records again. Through seven games, Philpart has racked up 640 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

For his career, he has 24 touchdown receptions – shattering the previous record of 15 set by Tribble.

This season, he has produced four 100-yard receiving days – including a season-high 180 yards on six catches against San Diego. He has caught at least one touchdown in five of JU’s seven games, with multiple touchdowns twice.

His outing against San Diego was recognized by the PFL, earning “Offensive Player of the Week” honors.
