Baseball prevails in annual Alumni Game
In another great turnout for the annual JU Baseball Alumni Game, the newest Dolphins showed there is a lot to look forward to in 2011 with a 10-1 win over the former Dolphins on Saturday afternoon at John Sessions Stadium.
Among the 30 former players to arrive for the game were: Mark Aldrich (IF, 1987-91), Carson Andrew (RHP, 2007-09), Chris Basso (C, 1990-91), Josh Burrows (LHP, 2006-08), Rob Cichra (IF, 2002-03), Matt Dobbins (LHP/IF, 2005-08), Garrett Dunlap (LHP, 2006-09), Z.B. Hamilton (RHP, 1988-98), Chad Hauseman (OF, 1999-03), Jamaal Hawkins (IF, 2008-10), Johnny Howard (IF, 1997-98), Logan James (IF, 2004-07), Chuck Kirk (RHP, 1989-90), Kyle Kriech (LHP, 2009-10), Matt Lopez (IF, 2005-08), Dan Maier (IF, 2005-09), Trip Mischel (IF, 1982-83), Daniel Murphy (IF, 2004-06), Phil Nover (OF, 2000-02), Paul Perry (RHP, 1981-83), Chad Oliva (C, 1999-02), Adam Rapoza (RHP, 2007-08), Dennis Robinson (RHP, 2002-04), Jason Ryals (RHP, 1999-02), Joe Schlegel (C, 1965-68), Bob Slover (IF, 1981-84), Scott Stephens (LHP, 1996-97), Eric Whitford (IF, 1987-91), Jimmy Winn (IF, 1961-63) and Justin Young (RHP/OF, 2004-07).
“I always look forward to this weekend every year,” said JU head coach Terry Alexander. “We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend of weather and there were several other guys who came for batting practice last night but couldn’t make it for the game.”
Senior Matt Tomshaw got the win for the Dolphins after hurling two shut out inning to start off the game.
The Dolphins got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first when junior Jonathan Murphy and sophomore Adam Brett Walker each hit RBI doubles.
The Alumni got on the board in the top of the third when Oliva drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
JU made it 3-0 in the bottom of the third when freshman Taylor Ratliff drove in a run with an RBI single.
The Dolphins added a run in the fifth when freshman Zack Houck scored from third on a double-steal before plating six runs in the bottom of the seventh.
