The JU men’s basketball team will hit the hardwood for the first time to kick off the 2010-11 season at Miami on Friday night.

Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m., with the game being broadcast on 1320 AM, with Barry Milligan calling the action starting with the Bono’s Barbecue Pregame Show at 7:15 p.m.

JU returns three starters from last year’s team that successfully defended its Atlantic Sun Conference title, advanced to the second round of the NIT and recorded the program’s first 20-win season since 1986.

“Our guys are excited to get the season started,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “Miami is a very good team that is well coached and has some very talented players.”

Leading Jacksonville will a pair of seniors from Alabama – Travis Cohn and Ayron Hardy.

One of the top defenders in the A-Sun, Hardy was a preseason all-conference selection and enters the season just 159 points away from joining the prestigious 1,000-point club.

Cohn enters his final season after a stellar junior season that saw him average more than eight points game and dishing out almost two assists per game.

“Our seniors know that we need them to be leaders this season,” Warren said. “With a lot of new guys on the team this year, we’re expecting them to show them the ropes and bring this team together.”

This is the first meeting between the two teams since 1997, but the series dates back to 1957. Miami owns a 24-6 lead in the all-time series.
