Women's tennis beats Davidson, 4-3
March 3, 2008
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After dropping three straight singles matches, JU's Lina Xu knew the pressure was on her.
The sophomore responded by breaking serve three times in the third set to win a three-set thriller and give the JU women's tennis a hard earned 4-3 win over Davidson on Monday at the Keith Watson Tennis Complex.
Xu's win in the No. 1 match finished off a fantastic finish. After winning the first set 6-4, Xu lost the second to Kelsey Linville 6-0 before rallying in the third set for a 6-4 win to seal the match.
The Dolphins (6-3) got wins in the No. 1, 2 and 3 singles matches, as Xu got help from teammates Lena Willi and Tatiana Soldatova in singles play. JU claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three matches.
"I'm really proud of the girls today because they fought hard and beat a very good Davidson team," said JU head coach Shane Wood. "The wind forced us to play a little bit differently, but both teams had to play in it and we did good job of making adjustments."
With the win, JU has now won three in a row and four of its last five matches. The Dolphins return to the courts on Saturday as they travel to face Stetson.
