Women's tennis shuts out Mercer and Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. - The JU women's tennis team battled through the weather to shut out Mercer, 5-0 and Kennesaw State, 6-0, over the weekend.

Dolphins' No. 2 Lena Willi lost only one match, defeating Mercer's Irys Citko, 6-1, 6-0, before downing Kennesaw State's Karen Ammann, 6-0, 6-0.

No. 1. Lina Xu defeated Mercer's Anna Wieslander in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, before recording a solid, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kennesaw State's Agatha Palider.

Dolphins' No. 3 Tatiana Soldatova defeated Mercer's Priscilla Dias in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1. Against Kennesaw State, Soldatova defeated Paula Takara, 6-1, 6-0.

No. 4 Juliana Umeki had two impressive two-set victories - besting Mercer's Amalia Bugge, 6-3, 6-3 and the Owls' Caroline Page, 6-4, 6-3.

The Dolphins' No. 5 Iva Jaresova kept her good recent run of form going by besting the Bear's Karen Bellman, 6-2, 6-0 and the Owl's Lindsey Whalen, 6-3, 6-0.

No. 6 Fernanda Carrero had her first match against Mercer's Kelly Blount rained out in the first set and rebound to defeat Kennesaw State's Lindsay Dillon, 6-0, 6-1.

There were no doubles matches due to the weather.

The Dolphins (15-4, 9-1 A-Sun) will face-off against cross-town rival North Florida on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla.
