JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU women's tennis team snapped its two match losing streak against North Florida on Tuesday, knocking off the Ospreys 5-2 in the SunTrust River City Rumble to wrap up the Atlantic Sun Conference schedule.

JU (16-4, 10-1 A-Sun) won two of three doubles matches and dominated the top four spots in singles to seal the win.

"This was a great win for us," said JU head coach Shane Wood. "We battled to win the doubles point and our top four did their job in singles."

With the win, the Dolphins clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming A-Sun Tournament for the second straight season.

"It's always nice to be the No. 1 seed, but we know we still have to go out and win three matches to win the tournament," Wood said. "Anyone in the conference is capable of knocking off anyone, especially in a tournament. We're going to get a good week of preparation in to get ready to defend the title."

The Dolphins opened the match by winning the doubles point in thrilling fashion. Iva Jaresova and Tatiana Soldatova won the No. 1 match, 9-7, with Lina Xu and Juliana Umeki winning the No. 3 match in a tiebreaker, 9-8, to seal the point.

Sporting a 1-0 lead going into singles play, the Dolphins took control early as Soldatova won the No. 3 match, 6-2, 6-1. Lena Willi extended the lead to 3-0 with an impressive 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 2 position for her 13th straight win in singles play.

The Ospreys answered with two straight wins to cut the lead to 3-2. Jaresova was trailing 6-0, 2-1 before pulling out due to an injured leg. Fernanda Carrero lost the No. 6 match, 6-2, 6-4 as the Ospreys got back in the match.

Umeki clinched the win for JU with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 4 match. With the match in hand for the Dolphins, Xu finished off the No. 1 match to earn a 6-2, 7-5 victory.

The Dolphins wrap up their regular season schedule on Saturday at Bethune-Cookman.
