Dolphins set to tee off at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate
With two weeks of practice and preparation, the JU men’s golf team looks to show some positive steps as they participate in the Rees Jones Intercollegiate.
The Dolphins had a strong finish at the event last year, taking home eight place in the elite field, led by Bobby Fredeking’s third place finish.
Jacksonville is looking to build some momentum after finishing 13th at the Kansas Invitational two weeks ago in the season opener.
“We had two good weeks of preparation and qualifying since the Kansas event,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “We were disappointed with our play in our last event and this group is ready to get that out of system.”
This event kick started Fredeking sophomore campaign. He opened with a two-over par, 74, in dreary conditions and followed by shooting one-under par over the final 36 holes to take home his best finish of the season.
“Bobby played really well at this event last season and is very confident coming back this year,” Blackburn said. “He’s had some good rounds leading up to this event and hopefully he can put everything together for 54 holes.”
The Dolphins lineup for the event will include senior Gavin Frost, making his season debut, along with sophomores Jamey Salmon and Trey Douglas, along with senior Stephen Healy.
The event opens with 36 holes on Monday followed by the final round on Tuesday. The 12-team event is headlined by South Carolina and Michigan State.
