Men’s golf takes home 11th at the SunTrust Gator Invitational
Bobby Fredeking carded a one-under par, 69, in the final round to tie for 11th place at the SunTrust Gator Invitational on the Mark Bostick Golf Course.

Fredeking’s round led the Dolphins to a 11th place finish, moving up several spots in the final round thanks to a 10-over par, 290, to pass Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Mississippi State.

Florida won its home event for the eighth straight year and for the 25th time in the event’s history, finishing at four-over par, 844. Florida’s Andres Echavarria won a four-man sudden death playoff on the second half for the individual title after trying at even-par.

“We had a really good round today, which moved us up a few spots on the leaderboard,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “Bobby and Dillon (Batsel) turned in two good rounds today, which were big in us making a move.”

Batsel, a freshman, also carded a one-under par 69 in the final round to finish in 64th at 21-over par, 231.

Sophomore Trey Douglas carded a five-over par 75, his best round of the event, to tie for 67th at 25-over par.

Gavin Frost tied for 55th at 19-over par, posting a seven-over par 77 in the final round. Jamey Salmon shot a 12-over par, 82, in the final round to tie Douglas in 67th at 25-over par.

“This was a good field on a good golf course,” Blackburn said. “We showed in the final round that we’re capable of putting up good scores. Now, we just have to do it on consistent basis.”

The Dolphins return to the links on Feb. 27 when they take part in the John Hayt Intercollegiate at Sawgrass Country Club.
