Men’s golf tees off in the John Hayt Intercollegiate on Sunday
The JU men’s golf team looks to build off of its strong final round as they tee off in the John Hayt Intercollegiate at Sawgrass Country Club on Sunday.

The Dolphins posted a 10-over par, 290, in the final round at the SunTrust Gator Invitational to finish in 11th place. This week, JU will face another strong field, featuring top-ranked Florida, host UNF, Auburn, Coastal Carolina, LSU, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tennessee, UAB and UCF among others.

“This is a great field at a great golf course,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “We’re going to have a young lineup this week, but this is an opportunity for them to step up and show that they belong in the lineup on a weekly basis.”

Jacksonville will be led by senior Gavin Frost, who tied for 35th at the JU Invitational to start the spring season. He is second on the team in scoring, entering the event with a 75.2 average.

The other four spots in the lineup are made up of sophomores and freshmen. The Dolphins will run out Jamey Salmon, Trey Douglas and Jimmy Murphy from the sophomore class, with freshman Dillon Batsel making his fifth straight start. Sophomore Taylor Szyndlar will participate as an individual.

Douglas is making his second straight start for the team, posting a five-over par 75 in the final round at the Gator that counted towards the team score. Salmon is looking to regain his form from the fall when he was among the team’s leaders in scoring.

Murphy will be playing in his third collegiate event, but his first in the team lineup.

The Dolphins will tee off with UAB and Mercer on Sunday morning, starting at 8:17 a.m. Fans can follow the action via live scoring from Golfstat.com.
