Men’s golf takes eighth at the River Landing Intercollegiate
Bobby Fredeking carded a one-over par 73 in the final round as the JU men’s golf team finished eighth at the River Landing Intercollegiate.

The Dolphins carded a nine-over par, 297, in the final round to stay in eight place, topping St. John’s, Winthrop and Maryland among other in the 14-team event.

East Carolina, the tournament host, rallied to win the team title – shooting an eight-under par, 280, with four players shooting a two-under par 70. UNC-Wilmington’s Josh Brock won the individual title, carding a four-under par 68 to finish at 15-under par.

“There are a lot of positives for us to build on as we get ready for the conference tournament next week,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “This is a great golf course and a great event for our guys to get their games in shape for our biggest tournament of the year.”

Fredeking’s final round moved him into a tie for 27th at three-over par, where he was joined by teammate Jamey Salmon – who posted a four-over par 76.

Dillon Batsel and Stephen Healy each carded a two-over par 74 to tie for 43rd at seven-over par. Gavin Frost shot a five-over par, 77, to finish in a tie for 56th at nine-over par.

Playing as an individual, Taylor Szyndlar carded a three-over par 75 to tie for 51st at eight-over par.

The Dolphins will use the upcoming week to prepare for the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament at Chateau Elan, starting a week from Monday.
