Track & Field adds Anastasia Fokina to 2007 roster

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU track and field team announced the addition of middle distance runner Anastasia Fokina of Dmitrov (Moscow), Russia, director of track & field and cross country Ron Grigg announced Thursday.

Fokina, who has been a member of the Junior Moscow City team since 2003, recently won the 1500-meter in the Moscow Indoor Championship with a time 4:36.61 in January. She will join the Dolphin's squad this season as a true freshman.

"Anastasia will certainly help solidify our young and talented group of middle distance runners," said Grigg. "In evaluating her speed levels and her training programs, we feel there is a tremendous upside in her ability to perform at a variety of events. We are looking forward to adding her talents to our improving cross country program in the fall."

Fokina will join local product Laura Phillips (St. Augustine, Fla./Nease), Stephanie Brown (Ft. Myers, Fla.), J'Zotta Rolle (Orlando, Fla.), Unique Singleton (Kissimmee, Fla.) and Stacey Young (Lithonia, Ga.) as newcomers in 2007-08.

The Dolphins will open the 2007 cross country season with the JU Short Course Duals on Friday, Aug. 31 at the JU Golf Course.
