The JU women's track & field team had a strong showing in their final preparation for the Atlantic Sun Championships, as they competed in the Tiger Invitational in Clemson, S.C. this weekend.
"We had an excellent two days and answered a lot of questions for the coaching staff," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "It wasn't a perfect meet, we have some issues to address, but we are rounding into form at the right time as we prepare for the A-Sun Championships in two weeks."
The 4x400 team of junior Natasha Harvey and freshmen J'Zotta Rolle, Unique Singleton and Danielle Davenport came in second with a time of 3:49.80, breaking the previous school record by almost four seconds.
"This team of three freshmen and Natasha really turned up their game today," Grigg said. "It was a pleasant surprise."
Harvey finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.70 in the finals after running a 7.63 in the preliminaries.
Singleton finished 11th in the 400-meters with a time of 57.45.
Junior Simone Clark finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.91 and also competed in the 60-meter dash.
Sophomore Alison Ritter finished fifth in the mile with a personal best and conference leading time of 5:06.74 missing a school record by less than two tenths of a second.
Freshman Anastasia Fokina, ran the fastest time in the conference this season in the 800-meters, after she took sixth with a time of 2:18.65.
"Coach Byrne's middle distance and distance group have really turned the corner," said Grigg. "It is exciting to watch that group perform better and better each time they step on the track."
Sophomore Hillary Crook finished second in the shot put with a conference leading throw of 44-00.50".
"Coach Carson has the entire throws group confident," Grigg said. "They are ready and at their best when it matters most."
While most of the Dolphins prepare travel to Johnson City, Tenn. on Feb. 29, to compete in the A-Sun Championships, both Natasha Harvey and Shaquania Lundy will head to Boston next weekend for the AT&T USA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
