The Atlantic Sun Conference has announced junior goalkeeper Alexa Rooney as the “Defensive Player of the Week” for her efforts against USF and Francis Marion.

Rooney played 162 minutes over the weekend, making 15 saves and allowing only one goal. Against USF, Rooney played 85 minutes of shutout soccer before allowing a goal from a penalty.

“I’m very happy for Lex to get this recognition for the week,” said JU head coach Brian Copham. “She had a great game against USF and put in a good performance against Francis Marion in the heat on Sunday.”

Rooney is the first Dolphin to receive a weekly award for the Dolphins this season. Last year, she was named “Defensive Player of the Week” as she led the Dolphin defense to 547 minutes without allowing a goal.

JU will start conference play this weekend when it hosts Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night and Stetson on Sunday afternoon.
