Women’s soccer set for weekend in Nashville
After taking six points from its last weekend, the JU women’s soccer team will be looking to keep its three-match unbeaten streak alive in Nashville against Belmont and Lipscomb.
The Dolphins (8-4-2, 4-1-1 A-Sun) currently have the highest scoring duo in the A-Sun in sophomore forward Lisa Hensley and redshirt-junior midfielder Liz Fink. The pair has scored seven goals in conference play (13 overall) and totaled 20 points (35). Junior goalie Alexa Rooney has also made her way towards the top of the A-Sun and currently sits in first in goals against average (0.17), just ahead of Florida Gulf Coast’s Stephanie Powers (0.19).
“We’re looking forward to this weekend’s matches and we know what we need to do,” said JU head coach Brian Copham. “We face two well coached teams and hopefully we’ll be able to keep up the level of play we’ve had in conference.”
Belmont (3-8-0, 2-3-0) comes into Friday night’s match having won two of its last three contests. In the team’s last two outings, the Bruins defeated ETSU on the road in double overtime, 3-2, before falling to Campbell, 1-0, at home.
Lipscomb (4-9-0, 0-5-0) has dropped its last five matches with its last win coming against the Citadel, 3-0, on Sept. 12. In the team’s last two outings, the Lady Bison dropped a close match on the road to USC Upstate, 1-0, before falling to Campbell at home, 2-0.
The Dolphins will face Belmont tonight at 6:30 p.m. and Lipscomb on Sunday at 1 p.m.
