Women’s tennis dominates again with sweep over Savannah State
Regardless of singles or doubles play, the mantra for the JU women’s tennis team has been simple: win in straight sets.

The Dolphins posted a 7-0 sweep for the second straight match, winning all 15 combined sets in six singles and three doubles matches in a victory over Savannah State on Friday at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex.

JU (4-0) has now won two straight matches by 7-0 scores without losing a single set. The Dolphins also accomplished the feat against Hampton University in its previous outing. Overall this season, JU has won by a collective score of 26-2 and has not lost more than one match in any single competition.

Gabriela Bartos, Virginia Iwinski, Flavia Nagayama and Veronique Spencer each improved to 4-0 in singles play after recording individual victories over Savannah State.

Eve Castaing and Natalia Melibeu capped the afternoon with both improving to 3-1 in the singles portion. During the current campaign, JU is 22-2 in singles competition (.917 winning percentage) and 12-0 in doubles play. The Dolphins fourth, fifth and sixth singles participants are a combined 12-0 in 2011.

JU will try and continue its hot start on Saturday when it hosts South Carolina State at home. Match times are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
