Women’s tennis stays unbeaten in win over Presbyterian
The JU women’s tennis team continued its season-opening winning streak, defeating Presbyterian, 5-2, at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
JU won four singles competitions and posted a victory in the doubles portion to improve to 7-0 on the season. Presbyterian fell to 4-2.
Senior Eve Castaing again set the tone from the first-singles spot, recording a 6-0, 6-1 win over Christina Limantoro. Castaing improved to 6-1 in individual matches this season.
Freshman Flavia Nagayama remained the last JU singles player to stay undefeated, improving to 7-0 after beating Cara Caruso. Nagayama, who also is 7-0 in doubles play in the campaign, did not even drop a single set to Caruso in a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Virginia Iwinski also won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, over Patricia Alves. Freshman Veronique Spencer rounded out the strong showing in sixth singles, outlasting Lindsay Krause in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0.
Castaing and Gabriela Bartos teamed to win the first doubles match and the Natalia Melibeu and Nagayama tandem won second doubles for the additional point. JU has beaten its last five opponents by a combined 30-5 margin.
The Dolphins will look to stay undefeated on Saturday when it hosts ETSU at 10 a.m.
