Women’s tennis rolls past Drake in non-conference match
The JU women’s tennis team displayed its early season form, dominating singles competition for its second straight win in posting a 6-1 decision over Drake in a non-conference meeting on Wednesday at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex.

JU won all six singles competition for its second straight victory. The Dolphins improved to 10-3 overall. After undergoing its first losing streak all season last week, the squad has now won three of its last five matches. Drake won two out of three doubles matches to pick up the single team point as the Bulldogs dropped to 6-6.

All JU singles players recorded victories for the second consecutive match after a 7-0 Atlantic Sun victory over USC Upstate. Against Drake, senior Eve Castaing dropped just two games in defeating Manca Krizman, 6-2, 6-0 in the top spot. Castaing improved to team-best 11-2 in singles play.

Freshman Gabriela Bartos out-lasted her namesake, beating Drake’s Gabriela Demos 6-3, 6-0. All JU singles players won in straight sets with the field rounded out by victories from Flavia Nagayama, Natalia Melibeu, Virginia Iwinski and Veronique Spencer.

Castaing also paired with Spencer for JU’s lone stand-alone win out of three doubles matches. Castaing improved to 10-2 in doubles play, making her 22-4 in all competition during the current campaign.

The Dolphins will resume ASun play on Friday when it hosts Kennesaw State at 10 a.m.
