Volleyball named to AVCA Team Academic Award list
The JU volleyball team was recognized for the second straight year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with an AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 season.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA (on a 5.0 scale).

JU, which ended the year with a 3.51 GPA to earn its second straight recognition, was one of 450 teams to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2009-2010 season, which surpassed the previous record of 409 (2008-09).

“We're very proud of our accomplishments on the court, but getting this award for a second straight year highlights what is really important in our program,” said JU head coach Shaun Kupferberg. “Each year we have gotten better on the court and in the classroom, we expect nothing less in the upcoming year.”

JU has tallied four consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1986-89 and tallied a Division I program record 13 consecutive wins during the 2009 season.
