Dolphins go for two hours in helmets
The JU football team commenced its five-day acclimation period with its first practice of the season on Friday.

The Dolphins went for two hours in helmets and shorts on Friday, continuing the installation of the offense and defense. Freshmen had their first practice start an hour earlier to give them more work and individualized instruction with the coaching staff.

“This was a good practice today and I liked how we got camp off to a good start,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “We’re preaching to our kids every day that they have to get better each day.”

WEEKLY RUDELL FACT: A nominee for the Walter Payton Award, which goes to the most outstanding player in the Football Championship Subdivision, Rudell Small has already accomplished a lot in his first three years at JU. His race to the all-time rushing record has been greatly assisted by his 13 career 100-yard outings, with six of those coming last season. NUMBER CHANGES: Quarterback Josh McGregor will need to re-introduce himself to two of his favorite targets from last season as they have changed their jersey numbers. Josh Philpart, formerly of the #85 jersey, will be wearing #10 this year. Larry Thompson, formerly of #84 fame, will don #4.

SCRIMMAGE SCHEDULE SET: The Dolphins will hold a scrimmage the final three Saturdays of training camp, starting Aug. 14.
