Men’s cross country selected 10th in A-Sun preseason polls
Last season’s improvement for the Dolphins was noticed by the entire league as the JU men’s cross country team was selected 10th in the first Atlantic Sun Conference preseason poll.

Kennesaw State took the top spot with 112 points and seven first-place votes, while USC Upstate had 100 points for second place. ETSU (96), Belmont (94) and North Florida (84) made up the rest of the top five. Lipscomb, Mercer, FGCU, Campbell, JU and Stetson rounded out the rest of the poll.

“Our men’s program was much improved last season,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “Our goal is to continue that upward trend. Andrew Maedel will again be our leader and he hopes to atone for an untimely mid-race injury during last year’s A-Sun Championship. I look forward to the continued development of a culture and identity for this program.”

Maedel leads of group of four returners back with the Dolphins for the 2010 season. As a junior, Maedel was the Dolphins’ top finisher in all five meets. He won the JU Short Course Duals with a time of 17:38.2 and placed sixth at the Invitational with a time of 16:16.22. Maedel battled through a foot injury at the A-Sun Championships to record a time of 29:16.

The Dolphins open the season on Friday, Sept. 3, with the JU Short Course Duals on the JU golf course.
