Women’s basketball releases 2010-11 schedule
The school year may be a week old, but it continues to be another step closer to the Dolphins’ Nov. 12 opener at USF as the JU women’s basketball team unveiled its 2010-11 schedule.

The Dolphins will scrap the road warrior mentality they had last season after scheduling eight of their first 11 contests at home.

“We really like our schedule and the fact that six of our non conference games are at home,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “Hopefully, we can pick up some early wins and gain some confidence, but it will also allow us to showcase our team to the university and city of Jacksonville.”

After the trip to USF, the Dolphins will host Florida Atlantic (Nov. 17), Georgia Southern (Nov. 21) and Howard (Nov. 23) at Swisher Gymnasium. JU heads to play Hampton on Nov. 27 before coming back home to start the Atlantic Sun Conference slate against Stetson (Dec. 2) and Florida Gulf Coast (Dec. 4) at the Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Dolphins host FIU (Nov. 13) and Wake Forest (Nov. 17) at Swisher, while heading down south to face UCF on Nov. 20. They close the 2010 calendar year with Long Island on Dec. 30 at the arena.

JU is on the road a lot to start 2011 with trips to Campbell (Jan. 3), Lipscomb (Jan. 8) and Belmont (Jan. 10). After home games against East Tennessee State and USC Upstate, the Dolphins will have another three-game road swing against Kennesaw State (Jan. 22), Mercer (Jan. 24) and cross-town rival North Florida (Jan. 27). JU ends the month at home against the Camels on Jan. 31.

The Dolphins round out their home slate against Belmont (Feb. 3), Lipscomb (Feb. 5), North Florida (Feb. 8), Kennesaw State (Feb. 18) and Mercer (Feb. 20).

The rest of the Dolphin’s conference road schedule concludes with USC Upstate (Feb. 12), East Tennessee State (Feb. 14), Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 24) and Stetson (Feb. 26).

The A-Sun championship will once again take place in Macon, Ga. with Mercer as the host starting March 2. JU kicks off the 2010-11 campaign with an exhibition contest against Tampa on Nov. 6 at Swisher Gymnasium.
