Junior midfielder Darko Karamatic was named Atlantic Sun Conference “Player of the Week” after recording both scores in the JU men’s soccer team’s 2-1 win against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 3.

After the Dolphins fell behind in the 20th minute, Karamatic evened the match less than four minutes later by curving a shot into the back of the net on a free kick near the corner flag. He scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute on an assist from sophomore Davide Faga. Karamatic finished the match with a team-high six shot attempts.

“I’m happy Darko got this honor,” said JU head coach Mike Johnson. “He worked really hard Friday night and was able to help get us the win. I hope to get everyone else rolling offensively soon so we can put together a couple good results.”

The Serbian native receives the first offensive weekly award for JU since Stefan Runeman took the honor on Sept. 28 last season.

Karamatic and the Dolphins host Georgia Southern at the Ashley Sports Complex tonight at 7 p.m.
