With hard hats still being worn and construction buzzing around D.B. Milne Field, the JU football team will be playing its home opener on Sept. 18 against Webber International at The Bolles School. With the move, JU will play at night now thanks to the facility change and have moved kickoff to 7 p.m. Fans will enjoy a cooler experience as JU will play under the lights in three straight games.

The new eight-lane Olympic-size Ron Autrey Family Track is being put in around the new AstroTurf playing surface at Milne Field and will not be completed in time for the first game. Once it is completed, construction will begin on the new W.W. Gay Employees entrance to the Ashley Sports Complex and D.B. Milne Field.

“While we’re disappointed that we won’t be playing the first game on campus, we know that it is just part of growing our facilities as an athletic department,” said JU director of athletics Alan Verlander. “These new improvements are going to be a very nice addition to our athletic complex, but the rain we’ve received the past month caused a bigger delay than we expected. Bolles is a first-class facility and I want to thank them for their willingness to help us."
