JU announces its 2010-11 men’s basketball schedule
The JU men’s basketball team will play 13 home games during the 2010-11 season, with key non-conference matchups against Florida, Auburn and Miami (Fla.).

Jacksonville will open its season on Nov. 12 at the Hurricanes of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Dolphins will travel to face Southeastern Conference foe Auburn on Nov. 27 and Florida on Dec. 20.

The home opener for the two-time defending Atlantic Sun Conference champion Dolphins is set for Nov. 16 against Savannah State at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

“Our schedule is going to be tough again this year,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “We’ve got a young squad that is going to face some very good teams early this year. Our goal every year is to have a non-conference schedule that prepares us for conference play and I think we accomplished that.”

Along with Savannah State, the Dolphins will also host Florida Tech (Nov. 20) and Bethune-Cookman (Dec. 30).

Jacksonville’s non-conference schedule includes the start of two home-and-home series on the road. JU will face Samford on Nov. 24 and then Winthrop on Dec. 12. Those two teams will play the Dolphins in Jacksonville during the 2011-12 season.

“The toughest part of the schedule is getting home games,” Warren said. “We’re fortunate that we’re able to start some home-and-home series this year, setting us up to already have two home games next season.”

The other major non-conference game will be a road trip to face Rick Majerus and his St. Louis team on Dec. 15.

JU will officially begin its second straight title defense on Dec. 2 when the Dolphins host Stetson at the Arena. The Dolphins will also host Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 4 to round out the early-season conference schedule.

Jacksonville will dive back into A-Sun play on Jan. 3 at Campbell, with its first home game of 2011 set for Jan. 13 against USC Upstate. The Dolphins will also host two-time defending tournament champion ETSU (Jan. 15) and Campbell (Jan. 31).

The February schedule sees the Dolphins play five games at home, with only the Lipscomb game on Feb. 5 being played at Swisher Gymnasium. JU will also host Belmont (Feb.3), North Florida (Feb. 8), Kennesaw State (Feb. 18) and Mercer (Feb. 20).
