Women’s soccer heads to Georgia to face Kennesaw State and Mercer
After taking four points from its opening conference weekend, the JU women’s soccer team will look to keep the ball rolling as the Dolphins travel to Georgia this weekend to face Kennesaw State and Mercer.
The Dolphins (5-3-2, 1-0-1 A-Sun) received votes in the NSCAA/HendrickCars.com Southeast Rankings this week thanks to their draw with FGCU, 0-0, and victory over Stetson, 1-0.
“We know we have our work cut out for us this weekend,” said JU head coach Brian Copham. “Over the past few years Kennesaw State and Mercer have been at the top of the A-Sun. We know we’re going to have to play at our highest level to get the results we want.”
Last weekend, the Owls (5-3-1, 2-0) waited until the final seconds to pull out a 2-1 win against Lipscomb last Friday night. On Sunday afternoon, Kennesaw State got a goal and an assist from junior Shelby Cosby, in a rematch of last year’s A-Sun Championship game, for a 2-0 win over Belmont.
The Bears (3-5-1, 2-0) finished their opening weekend of conference play much like the Owls. A 1-0 win over Belmont on Friday night was paired with a 4-0 victory over Lipscomb on Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins will face Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. on Friday night and will take the short trip to Macon, Ga. on Sunday to take on Mercer at 2 p.m.
