Women's soccer tops Kennesaw State, 1-0
At the start of one of its most competitive conference weekends of the season, the JU women’s soccer team showed it was ready, downing Kennesaw State, 1-0, on Friday night.

The Dolphins (6-3-2, 2-0-1 A-Sun) scored the only goal of the match off the foot of sophomore forward Lisa Hensley. The Owls (5-4-1, 2-1) were outshot by JU, 19-13, as they were handed their first conference loss of the season.

“It was a great Friday night soccer game at a great venue,” said JU head coach Brian Copham. “I thought our girls came out with the intensity and effort we wanted and we scored a great goal and played well against a very good team. We look forward to Mercer in another competitive match on Sunday.”

The 22nd minute of the match saw JU take the lead thanks to a shot from Hensley. Sophomore midfielder Becca Massip was played wide and came down the wing, serving an early ball to Hensley on a diagonal run for the finish.

A strong defensive effort from the Dolphins in the second half helped preserve the Dolphins’ sixth clean sheet of the season, sophomore goalie Alexa Rooney’s fifth.

Rooney made eight saves on the night while the Dolphins were led with shots by freshman forward Courtney Conrad (7, 4 on goal) and redshirt-junior Liz Fink (3, 1).

Sunday afternoon will close out the Dolphins’ weekend when they face Mercer at 2 p.m.
