Josh Philpart named PFL Offensive Player of the Week
After making six catches for 180 yards against San Diego, Josh Philpart was named Pioneer Football League “Offensive Player of the Week” on Monday.
Philpart became JU’s all-time leader in receptions, capturing the 115th of his storied career in the Dolphins 35-28 win over San Diego. He also made another mark in the record book with his 80-yard touchdown reception, tying for the fourth longest pass in program history.
It was the only honor won by Philpart this week. He was also named by the College Football Performance Awards as an honorable mention for wide receiver of the week nationally.
“Josh has been playing at very high level this season and was tremendous against San Diego,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “He runs great routes and has such a good relationship with our quarterback, which you can’t put enough value on.
“This honor also shows the play of our offensive line, that gave Josh McGregor enough time to find Josh (Philpart) down the field. When you’ve got time to throw, it becomes a lot easier to find your favorite target.”
The outing against San Diego was his third 100-yard performance of the season and the third-best of his career. He has recorded at least 100-yards receiving in each of the last two weeks to move within striking distance of the school’s all-time receiving yards record of 1,986 set by Geavon Tribble.
He already owns the school record for most career touchdown receptions (23) and set the single-season record last year with 13. He has six already this year, tying for second place on the single-season list.
OTHER RECORDS FALL: The Dolphins picked up a big home win over San Diego on Saturday and in the process broke the school record for longest home winning streak with their sixth victory in a row. The previous record was five set in 2008.
