The JU women’s cross country team will keep themselves busy with two meets this week to close out the regular season schedule starting on Friday.

Senior Kelli Midden, junior Alicia Kard-Kaminkow, sophomore Bienna Freeman and sophomore Amalia Vogler will kick the race week off for the Dolphins at the Sodexho Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Fla.

“This course holds good memories for us from last year,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “The women racing here have an opportunity to solidify their spot on the travel roster for the A-Sun Championships.

On Saturday, senior Anastasia Fokina, senior Susanne Klungtveit, junior Bailee Hedstrom, sophomore Morgan Keel, sophomore Joane Pierre and freshman Svenja Meyer will represent the Dolphins at the ISU Pre-Nationals (6K) in Terra Haute, Ind. – the 2010 site of the NCAA Championships.

“This is a major step up in competition from anything we have seen this year,” said Grigg. “The quality of the field, the rolling hills on the course and the 6k distance will all provide great challenges for our team. Running in this environment will certainly help in our preparation for the A-Sun meet in two weeks.”

The Dolphins will be part of the 40-team white race at the Pre-Nationals that will run at 11:35 a.m. against nationally ranked squads in Georgetown (5th), Colorado (9th), Stony Brook (12th), Stanford (17th), Michigan (19th), N.C. State (23rd), Minnesota (26th) and Florida (27th). They will also race against Harvard, Toledo and Arizona State who are receiving votes in the national polls.

Last time out, JU had runners finish in the top five individual spots to win the FLRunners.com Invitational for the second consecutive season on Oct. 1 in Titusville, Fla.

Pierre won her second straight meet in 2010 by running a time of 18:38.71 and Klungtveit was second with a time of 18:41.96. Fokina took third place after running an 18:44.44, while Hedstrom (18:48.95) and freshman Svenja Meyer (18:54.25) rounded out the top five for the Dolphins.

Keel placed 11th with a time of 19:22.52. Vogler ran a time of 19:36.53 (14th) and Gard-Kaminkow took 20th after running a 20:27.26. Midden (20:41.03, 25th) and Freeman (20:52.61, 27th) closed out the day for the Dolphins.
