Dolphins prep for Morehead State on Saturday
With a national ranking and a six-game winning streak, the JU football team begins a crucial two-game road trip at Morehead State on Saturday.
The Dolphins (7-1, 5-0 PFL) are looking to keep rolling along after outscoring its last two opponents, 142-21 with two record-setting performances.
Last week, Jacksonville rushed for a school-record 433 yards against Marist – with Rudell Small and J.J. Laster being the first two running backs to rush for 100 yards in a game since 2004.
Now, JU faces a tough test as they travel to face Morehead State (3-4, 2-2 PFL) on its Homecoming after rallying to knock off Butler last week, 21-20.
“They had a big win last weekend against Butler and they are going to be fired up,” said JU head coach Kerwin Bell. “They’ve got some very talented kids and they can throw it around to some good receivers. Anytime you in the PFL on the road, it’s tough to win.
“We’re preparing to play our best game of the year. Our kids understand that and that’s the way we’re going to approach it.”
JU owns a 5-4 lead in the all-time series after winning the last four meetings, including a 39-0 victory at home last season.
The last two wins have showcased the Dolphins high-flying aerial attack. Josh McGregor has thrown for 613 yards and 10 touchdowns in two outings against the Eagles, including his school-record six touchdowns tosses at MSU in 2008.
Last season, Josh Philpart had a field day as well, making six catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
The Dolphins defense also shined in the last meeting, racking up a season-high seven sacks while holding the Eagles to just 113 yards of total offense.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., with the game being broadcast on 1010XL. Coverage begins at 1:30 p.m. with the Bono’s Barbecue Pregame Show.
