Women’s cross country finishes third at A-Sun Championships
A second straight conference title just fell out of grasps for the JU women’s cross country team after the Dolphins placed third at the A-Sun Championships on Saturday morning in Spartanburg, S.C.

UNF took the championship with 55 points, while Lipscomb (73) followed in second place. JU (96), USC Upsate (108) and Belmont (108) made up the rest of the top five.

“We were out recruited last year, out worked in the summer, out coached during the season and out raced today,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “UNF ran like true champions today. Individually, Susanne (Klungtveit), Bailee (Hedstrom) and Alicia (Gard-Kaminkow) ran complete races they can be proud of.”

Klungtveit and sophomore Joane Pierre each received first team all-conference honors to pace the Dolphins. Pierre was third overall with a time of 17:51.91, while Klungtveit finished sixth after running a time of 17:57.75.

Hedstrom ran a time of 18:38.06 to finish 25th for JU. Senior Anastasia Fokina (18:44.78, 30th) and freshman Svenja Meyer (18:51.81, 33rd) finished near each other, while sophomore Morgan Keel registered a 19:30.84 (51st).

Gard-Kaminkow placed 54th with a time of 19:38.41 and senior Kelli Midden ran a time of 20:28.56 to round out the JU runners.

The Dolphins will look to end the year on high note on Nov. 13 as they compete at the NCAA South Region on Birmingham, Ala.
