Women’s soccer set to host A-Sun Championship for the first time

For the first time in program history, the JU women’s soccer team will host its conference tournament when the Dolphins welcome No. 2 Mercer, No. 4 Kennesaw State and No. 6 Stetson to the Ashley Sports Complex on Thursday and Saturday for the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Soccer Championship.

The semifinals will open up at 4 p.m. when the Bears (7-3-0, 8-8-1 A-Sun) take on the Hatters (8-10-1, 4-5-1). Stetson earned its trip back up I-95 by defeating No. 3 UNF, 1-0, on Saturday night on a goal scored with just 70 seconds remaining in regulation.

The No. 1 Dolphins (12-4-2, 8-1-1) will face the Owls (8-7-3, 5-4-1) at 7 p.m. for a spot in the finals. Kennesaw State downed ETSU in penalty kicks (4-2) on Saturday to claim the semifinal berth.

The championship match will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. All three matches will be televised free of charge on A-Sun.TV.
