No. 1 JU women’s soccer set for A-Sun Championship against No. 2 Mercer tomorrow at 1 p.m.
With the 2010 Atlantic Sun Women’s Soccer Championship on the line tomorrow at 1 p.m., the No. 1 JU women’s soccer team will face No. 2 Mercer at the Ashley Sports Complex for a berth to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament.

Freshman forward Courtney Conrad’s three-goal performance lifted the Dolphins (13-4-2) to the finals after a 3-0 victory over No. 4 Kennesaw State last night; Conrad recorded the first ever hat trick by a freshman in the A-Sun Tournament. The Bears (9-8-1) will come into tomorrow’s match after a sound defeat of No. 6 Stetson, 5-0.

“This is where we’ve wanted to be all year,” said JU head coach Brian Copham. “We played an excellent game last night and hopefully we can take that momentum into tomorrow’s game.”

With the victory last night over the Owls, the Dolphins are now 10-0-4 in their last 14 matches at home with their last loss coming last year at the hands of Mercer on Oct. 2.

For the 12th time in 13 years, the No. 1 seed has made the finals and this is the sixth time in eight years that the A-Sun Finals will be played between the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds; in those five matches, the No. 1 seed is 3-0-2.

Saturday afternoon will also mark the 13th time in 17 years that the host team has appeared in the title game where the home side has gone 7-3-2.

The match will be streamed live on A-Sun.TV and will be made free of charge on the Atlantic Sun Channel.
