"Moe's Southwest Grill couldn't be more thrilled to welcome and host these top-notch lacrosse programs here in Jacksonville," said Brad Chasteen, President and CEO, Welcome to Moe's, Inc. and regional franchisee for Moe's Southwest Grill. "We are proud to sponsor the inaugural Moe's Southwest Grill Sunshine Classic and are excited to witness this championship game rematch!"
The event will be televised on the ESPN family of networks, with the national title rematch starting at 3 p.m. on ESPN. JU’s matchup against Georgetown will air on ESPN3 at noon. Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster.com, with club seats starting at $34.50 and non-club seats starting at $25.50. Discounted prices are available for groups and for all active members of the military.
“We are excited to bring a national event of this stature to the city and expose our community to the top lacrosse programs in the country,” said JU director of athletics Alan Verlander. “Thanks to our partners at SMG, JEDC Sports & Entertainment and Inside Lacrosse, we’ve put together a first class event that is going to grow with our lacrosse programs in the coming years.”
Jacksonville University is partnering with JEDC Sports & Entertainment in welcoming this lacrosse event to Jacksonville.
“Lacrosse is growing in our area and this is a tremendous opportunity to have another unique sporting event in Jacksonville for lacrosse fans to come out and enjoy,” said Michael Bouda, JEDC Sports and Entertainment director. “With the national exposure on ESPN, Jacksonville will be showcased as a great sports city that is able to successfully host a diverse selection of sporting events.”
In only its second season of existence, JU is hosting this event as part of building the sport of lacrosse in the state of Florida. The Dolphins are the only Division I men’s program in the state and have one of the two women’s programs.
JU’s first season was wildly successful, with its first win coming over No. 18 Denver at home in triple overtime as the Dolphins finished the season 6-7.
“To have this event at such an early point in our program is a major step for our growth,” said JU head coach Matt Kerwick. “We’re very fortunate to have tremendous facilities and relationships here in Jacksonville that has brought this event together.”
