This Week in JU Athletics (Christmas Edition)
JU women’s basketball player Crystal Bell was tabbed as the Community First Credit Union “Athlete of the Week” to kick off the Christmas edition of This Week in JU Athletics.

This Week in JU Athletics is a weekly feature to give fans the top five items of the week and a full list of all the athletic events so they can cheer the Dolphins on to victory.

Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" - Crystal Bell: Junior Crystal Bell earned Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" honors after leading the JU women’s basketball team off the bench against Wake Forest (Dec. 17) and UCF (Dec. 20). She scored a team-high 16 points to lead JU past Wake Forest before adding a season-best 22 points at UCF.
Men’s basketball upsets Florida - It was an upset 16-years in the making as JU knocked off No. 20 Florida, 71-68, yesterday in Gainesville. The win was their first over the Gators since 1994, which was also the Dolphins last win over a team ranked in the top 25. Freshman Keith McDougald scored a season-high 18 points, with 15 coming in the second half and overtime to lead four Dolphins. He was also tabbed as the A-Sun “Newcomer of the Week.”
Women’s basketball downs ACC foe Wake Forest- Despite falling to UCF last night, the Dolphins did manage a large win by downing Wake Forest, 72-66, on Dec. 17 in Swisher Gymnasium. The Dolphins had four players in double figures to get their first win over an ACC opponent since downing Miami, 72-64, on Nov. 13, 2007. Along with Bell, seniors GiGi Thomas (12), Lynsey Paschal (12) and Taneskei Richardson (10) each hit double figures. Thomas also had 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
Both hoops teams back in action on Dec. 30 - After everyone sips some eggnog and wears snazzy Christmas sweaters, the Dolphins will hit the hardwood again for a doubleheader on Dec. 30th at the Veterans Memorial Arena. The women will host Long Island at 5 p.m., while the men’s team plays Bethune-Cookman at 7:15 p.m.

JU announces inaugural Moe’s Southwest Grill Sunshine Lacrosse Classic on Feb. 20 - Last week, the JU athletics department was pleased to announce the inaugural Moe’s Southwest Grill Sunshine Lacrosse Classic they will be hosting on Feb. 20 at EverBank Field – the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The JU men’s lacrosse team will kick the day off with Georgetown at noon. A rematch of the 2010 National Championship between Duke and Notre Dame will take place at 3 p.m. Click hereto purchase tickets for the event through Ticketmaster.
