JU set to host Baseball Celebration from Jan. 14-16
The Jacksonville University baseball program has enjoyed successes on the field and off for more than 50 years and now all of those great moments will be relived as the Dolphins host the JU Baseball Celebration weekend.

The events for all former JU players, coaches, managers and support staff will begin with a golf outing on Friday, Jan. 14 before culminating with the JU Baseball Celebration banquet on Sunday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

“We are excited to welcome back those who built the foundation for our baseball program’s success,” said JU director of athletics Alan Verlander. “It’s a great weekend of events that will also introduce the new C. Peter Cost Pavilion to the JU baseball family. We had a great turn out and support for our basketball celebration last year and I am looking forward to this event carrying on that same tradition.”

The golf outing will be held at Hidden Hills Country Club with a block of tee times slated from 12 p.m. to 1:12 p.m. and a fee of $45 for 18-holes and a golf cart. For those interested in playing golf to kick off the weekend, please call (904) 256-7444 or (904) 256-7402 to reserve your slot.

The festivities continue on Saturday, Jan. 15, with the JU basketball doubleheader against Atlantic Sun Conference rival ETSU at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The women’s game will begin at 1 p.m. with the men to follow at 3:15 p.m. All alumni of the JU baseball program are admitted free to the games and will be recognized on the floor at halftime of the men’s game.

The day will conclude with the dedication of the newly completed C. Peter Cost Pavilion during an Alumni Reception at 6 p.m. The new 7,000 square-foot-facility is being built on the current site of the JU baseball outdoor batting cages and home bullpen down the left-field line at John Sessions Stadium. The event is free to attend for everyone and will feature heavy hors d'oeuvres during the evening.

The weekend will wrap up with the Baseball Celebration banquet on Sunday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The evening will start with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. and will move to the Arena floor for a buffet-style dinner, video presentations and speakers from each decade of Dolphin baseball. Honored during this event will be the 1976 baseball team, the most successful squad in program history and all former alumni will receive a gift commemorating the event.

All JU baseball alumni are free to the banquet and all additional guests can attend for $50 per ticket. Tables for 10 people are also available to be purchased for $500.
