Women’s basketball returns to A-Sun play at Campbell on Monday
The JU women’s basketball team needs to shake its funk quickly as they dive back into the A-Sun schedule on Monday against Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C at 5:15 p.m.

The Dolphins (6-5, 1-1 A-Sun) return to the conference schedule looking for some new momentum after falling in four of the last five games.

“We need to be more consistent,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “There are times when we are executing the game plan well and other times when we can’t do anything right. We need to get back to our style we had at the start of the season to help us during this conference stretch.”

Last time out, the Dolphins fell to Long Island, 69-59, in their final non-conference game on Dec. 30 in the Veterans Memorial Arena.

After falling behind 11-0 to start the game, JU used a 14-3 run capped by a three-pointer by sophomore guard Maggie Wilson to take a 22-19 advantage (5:36) in the first half. Long Island regained the lead at end of the first half, 30-29, as Krystal Wells beat the shot clock with a three pointer.

The Dolphins tied the game in the second half, but the Long Island hit 10 free throws in the final five minutes to pull away with the victory. The Blackbirds hit 25-of-27 free throw attempts in the second half in the win.

Junior guard Crystal Bell hit double-figures for the third straight game with 16 points to pace the Dolphins, while senior forward Lynsey Paschal scored 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

The Camels (1-10, 0-2) is on worse stretch this season than the Dolphins right now and have lost their last three contests entering into Monday. Campbell’s lone win came against N.C. Central, 67-61, on Dec. 14.

Tonisha Baker leads the team in scoring with a 10.5 average, while Kate Cloxton has team highs in assists (48) and steals (18).

JU has closed the gap in the all-time series to 11-10 after downing the Camels at home last season and bouncing them from the first round of the A-Sun Tournament. The Camels won the first matchup in Buies Creek, N.C., 74-63.
