JU selected sixth in A-Sun men’s tennis preseason poll
The JU men’s tennis team is ready to begin a new chapter under the direction of new head coach Justin Miles as the Dolphins were selected sixth in the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.

“We are excited to start our dual match season and see what we can accomplish,” said Miles. “There are a lot of new players that bring talent and experience to our team. We have a really challenging non- schedule this year and we hope to use this to get ready for the conference schedule starting March 5th against ETSU.”

In the poll, ETSU took the number one nod followed by Stetson, UNF, USC Upstate, Campbell, Jacksonville, Mercer, Belmont, FGCU, Kennesaw State, and Lipscomb. ETSU also swept the individual honors as junior Sander Gille was selected preseason player of the year while Gille and sophomore Jesus Bandres were named doubles team of the year.

The Dolphins are looking to improve upon last season’s overall record of 8-11 with a 4-6 finish in conference. The young JU squad will be led by A-Sun all-freshman team honoree Jose Fantova along with returners Andrew Lerner, Pitt Von Oertzen and Logan Shalmi.

The Dolphins have added experience with transfers Matthew Hansen (Northern Illinois) and Fernando Bano Lopez (North Carolina State), and are excited with adding talent with true freshmen Lance Lvovsky (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), and Larry Condez (Jacksonville, Fla.).

JU opens the 2011 campaign with nine home contests beginning with UCF on Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. All home competitions are played at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Center on the JU campus and are free to all fans.
