Women’s basketball faces cross-town rival UNF on Thursday
The JU women’s basketball team will wrap up its three-game road swing with a short trip across the city to face cross-town rival UNF on Thursday in UNF Arena at 7 p.m.

The matchup for the Dolphins (9-9, 4-5 A-Sun) and Ospreys (6-12, 4-5) will also count towards the standings in the annual SunTrust River City Rumble battle for the Old Wooden Barrel. Currently, the schools are tied at 3-3 in the standings.

“We are going into a tough environment on Thursday,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “Anytime you play on the road, it is going to be a battle. The fact that it is UNF, our cross town rival, makes things even more interesting. We have to be ready to play.”

Last time out, the Dolphins avoided another close loss by outlasting Mercer in overtime, 80-78, on Monday night in Macon, Ga.

Junior guard Ashanti Williams was one of three JU players to finish with 14 points, including scoring the game-winning basket in the extra period. She has scored in double-digits in five of the last six games since joining the starting lineup on Jan 8.

Seniors GiGi Thomas (14 points, 11 rebounds), Taneskei Richardson (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Lynsey Paschal (12 points, 16 rebounds) each had double-doubles to help the JU cause.

The Ospreys saw their four-game winning streak come to an end with a 54-50 loss to Kennesaw on Monday in Kennesaw Ga.

Brittany Kirkland paces the offense with 15.7 points per contest, while Lakria Jones is averaging 7.9 rebounds per game in 18 starts.

In the all-times series, the Dolphins own an 8-3 advantage over the Ospreys, but UNF won at its place and bounced JU from the A-Sun Tournament to close out the series last year.
