Women’s tennis continues to roll with win over Florida A&M
The JU women’s tennis team continued its fast start to the new season, recording a 6-1 victory over Florida A&M on Saturday afternoon at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex.

For the second straight day, the Dolphins posted victories in five of six singles matches while sweeping the doubles competition in improving to 2-0 on the year. JU also won, 6-1, on Friday against Bethune-Cookman in its season opener.

Senior Eve Castaing keyed the Dolphins strong singles play, winning in straight sets, 6-3,6-0 for her first singles victory of 2011. Freshmen Gabriela Bartos and Flavia Nagayama followed their stellar collegiate debuts with their second win in as many days. Juniors Virginia Iwinski and Veronique Spencer also won in singles play.

Iwinski and Spencer teamed up to register a tightly contested 9-7 doubles match victory. Castaing and Bartos paired for another doubles win and Melibeu and Nagayama helped the Dolphins sweep doubles competition for a second straight match.

JU will be back in action on Feb. 4 when it hosts Savannah State at 2 p.m.
