Charlene Charles named A-Sun Field “Athlete of the Week”
After only one meet, Charlene Charles is showing no signs of a “sophomore slump” by earning A-Sun Field “Athlete of the Week” honors after breaking the JU indoor track & field record in the pentathlon at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational on Jan. 30.

Charles won the event with 3,906 points, besting her previous of 3,861 points in the same meet last season (which she also won A-Sun weekly honors for). This time around, she set indoor personal bests in winning the 55-meter hurdles (8.06) and 800-meter (2:20.88) in track events. In field events, Charles won the high jump (5’5.75”) and long jump (18’11.75’), while also setting a personal best in the shot put (32’0”) for fifth place.

“Charlene had a nice opener that shows she is ready for a good season,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg.

The Dolphins will return to action on Saturday with the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup in State College, Pa.
