JU travels to face ETSU in A-Sun “Game of the Week”
The JU men’s basketball team returns to the road on Friday for the Atlantic Sun Conference “Game of the Week” at East Tennessee State.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., with the game being televised on Comcast Sports Southeast (Ch. 54 on Comcast in Jacksonville). The game will also be broadcast on 1010XL, ESPN3 (blacked out in the Southeast) and ASun.TV.
The Dolphins (16-7, 10-4 A-Sun) have won four of their last five games and face an ETSU (17-9, 12-3 A-Sun) that is coming off a buzzer-beating loss at Stetson.
“ETSU is a veteran team that has a lot of experience,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “They are well coached and always have a good crowd at home. We’ve watched a lot of tape to correct some of the mistakes we made in the first meeting.”
After a rough stretch of free throw shooting, the Dolphins have caught fire at the stripe in the last two games – which has led to two victories.
JU hit 26-of-29 (89.7 percent) in the win over UNF after hitting 26-of-30 (86.7 percent) against Lipscomb. Delwan Graham was perfect on his 10 free throw attempts against UNF, the 12th time in program history that a Dolphin has been perfect at the charity stripe with at least 10 attempts.
Graham’s big night at the free throw line wasn’t his only contribution. He pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds, the most by a Dolphin since Marcus Allen against Campbell in January of 2009. He also dished out three assists and recorded five blocks.
Jacksonville is looking to avenge a 74-62 loss to ETSU at the Arena on Jan. 15, a game in which JU never led. The Bucs hit 56 percent of their shots in the first half, built a 15-point lead and stymied the Dolphins’ attack – limiting JU to just 33.3 percent shooting, with only five 3-pointers and racking up a 16-4 advantage in fast break points.
