Dolphins open final road trip at Florida Gulf Coast
The JU men’s basketball team begins its final road trip of the regular season on Thursday at Florida Gulf Coast on the verge of a second straight 20-win season.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Alico Arena, with the game being broadcast on 1010XL as Barry Milligan and Artis Gilmore call the action.
The Dolphins (19-8, 13-5 A-Sun) have already locked up the No. 3 seed in next week’s General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. Right now, their focus is on FGCU and clinching a second straight 20-win season – the first time since the 1972-73 and 1973-74 seasons.
“Our focus is on getting better each day,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “We know that Florida Gulf Coast is playing well, especially at home and that we have to be prepared for a tough game on Thursday.”
Jacksonville has won three in a row after a 74-68 win over Mercer at home on Sunday, led by Delwan Graham’s 16 points and eight rebounds. It is the first time the junior has led the team in both scoring and rebounds this season.
Graham’s play has been stellar on the scoring end over the last three games, putting up an average of 14.3 points per contest. Helping that has been Ayron Hardy, who has scored 15 points in all three games as well.
In addition to Graham’s solid play, the Dolphins got a big lift over the weekend with the return of sophomore center Glenn Powell.
The Deerfield Beach native missed three straight games due to an injury, but came through with a big night against Mercer, scoring 10 points and pulling down four rebounds.
A-SUN TOURNEY TIME SET: The Dolphins quarterfinal matchup is set for 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 in Macon, Ga. at Mercer’s University Center. JU could know its opponent as early as Thursday night.
