Women’s tennis continues to roll with win over Western Carolina
It was another rendition of the same old script for the JU women’s tennis team. Strong showings in the singles portion and a flawless doubles performance helped the Dolphins to another sweep, lifting JU to a 7-0 win over Western Carolina on Sunday afternoon at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex.

JU improved to 6-0 and recorded a 7-0 win for the third time in the past four matches. The Dolphins also blanked Hampton University and Savannah State earlier this month. Western Carolina fell to 1-3.

Freshman Gabriela Bartos continued her undefeated streak in singles play, moving to 6-0 after outlasting Carolina Laine in three sets, 2-6, 7-6, 1-0. Eve Castaing started the Dolphins on a strong note, winning her first singles match, 6-4, 6-1 over WCU top-draw Izabella Glinska.

Freshmen Flavia Nagayama and Natalia Melibeu also recorded straight-set wins for the Dolphins. Junior Veronique Spencer lost just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 decision and fellow junior Virginia Iwinski raced to a 4-3 first-set lead before winning by default.

Castaing and Bartos teamed to take the first doubles competition, 8-3. Melibeu and Nagayama added an 8-4 victory in second doubles and Iwinski and Spencer capped the tandem portion with an 8-5 win over Karen Jimenez and Katie Barry.

JU will look to stay unbeaten on Tuesday when it hosts Presbyterian at 2 p.m
